چکیده

The problem of spontaneous emission of sound waves from shocks in solids is investigated. A self-consistent model of the medium is constructed that allows the calculations of the various thermodynamic properties such as the internal energy, the entropy, the Gruneisen parameter and in particular the Mach number behind the shock. The latter is employed in calculating the stability criterion that determines whether spontaneous acoustic emission occurs behind the shock. The experimental shock adiabatic curves are reproduced by the model. A simple explicit form of the stability criterion is derived in terms of Gruneisen parameter of the unperturbed medium and the maximum compression ratio. It is shown that spontaneous emission may occur in metals under available experimental conditions.

Reflection and Transmission at the Boundary of Two Couple Stress Generalized Thermoelastic Solids

In this paper the reflection and transmission at a plane interface between two different couple stress generalized thermoelastic solid half spaces in context of Loard-Shulman(LS)[1967] and Green-Lindsay(GL)[1972] theories in welded contact has been investigated. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are obtained due to incidence of a set of coupled longitudinal waves and c...

Wave Propagation in Mixture of Generalized Thermoelastic Solids Half-Space

This paper concentrates on the reflection of plane waves in the mixture of generalized thermo elastic solid half-space. There exists quasi dilatational waves i.e. qP1, qP2, qT and two rotational waves S1, S2 in a two dimensional model of the solid. The boundary conditions are solved to obtain a system of five non-homogeneous equations for amplitude ratios. These amplitude ratios are found to de...

Reflection and Transmission of Plane Waves at Micropolar Piezothermoelastic Solids

The present investigation analysis a problem of reflection and transmission at an interface of two micropolar orthotropic piezothermoelastic media. The basic equations and constitutive relations for micropolar orthotropic piezothermoelastic media for G-L theory are derived. The expressions for amplitude ratios corresponding to reflected and transmitted waves are derived analytically. The eff...

Multi-dimensional shock interaction for a Chaplygin gas

A Chaplygin gas is an inviscid, compressible fluid in which the acoustic fields are linearly degenerate. We analyse the multi-dimensional shocks, which turn out to be sonic. Two shocks in general position interact rather simply. We investigate several twodimensional Riemann problems and prove the existence of a unique solution. Among them is the supersonic reflection of a planar shock against a...

Interaction of Acoustic Disturbances with Micro-Cavities for Ultrasonic Absorptive Coatings

Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the interaction of acoustic waves with an array of equally-spaced two-dimensional micro-cavities on an otherwise flat plate without external boundary-layer flow. This acoustic scattering problem is important in the design of ultrasonic absorptive coatings (UAC) for hypersonic laminar flow control. The reflection coefficient, characterizing the ...
